The use and maintenance of the FPV battery

Now FPV all use Lipo battery, and there are many pilots that they all used 3s/4s battery in the FPV racing competition.
The so-called 3s is composed of three layers lithium cells in series that shows each cell voltage is 3.7 volts, each lithium chip actual voltage is in the range of 2.75 to 4.2 volts. The capacitance marked on lithium is that the energy was getting when 4.2 volts discharge to 2.7 volts. The FPV lithium voltage must be kept at the range of 2.75 volts to 4.2 volts for use. If the battery voltage is lower than 2.75 volts, it is excessive discharge, lithium battery will expand and the chemical liquid will crystallize. The crystallization may pierce the internal structure that cause battery short circuit, even changes voltage charge into zero. The remote model airplane voltage is higher than 4.2 volts, it is overdischarge, the internal chemical reaction is too excessive and the lithium will expand, if voltage keeps charging, the RC lipo battery will expand and burn.

No matter overdischarge or overcharge, both can cause a lot of damages to remote control model airplane battery.
Because FPV battery almost use for violent flight, so must pay attention to the skills about the use and maintenance of FPV battery.
1.The charge voltage should not exceed specified limited voltage (each battery chip is 4.2 volts), 4.25 volts is the highest limitation of each charge voltage. Charge current should not be too large (like the TATTU brand charger of 1500mAh 3s battery should be set at 1.5 amperes to 2.5 amperes to charge)
2.Connect battery positive and negative electrodes correctly. If the anode and cathode of battery swap the cell's poles over will not accept a charge. Reverse charge will make battery damage, cause heating, explosion, leaking and burn.
3.Overdischarge will make battery damage. When the battery discharges, monomer battery voltage should not be less than 3.6 volts (When single cell is 3.8 volts, the plane should almost begin to descend.)
4.The battery should be kept at a cool environment. When store the battery for a long time (over 3 weeks), suggest to put in the environment that temperature keeps at 10 to 25 degree Celsius, low temperature and non-corrosive gas. Battery needs to charge and discharge once three months to keep battery activity, and ensure every chip voltage in the range of 3.7 to 3.9 volts.
5.A good battery should have a good charger. Don't use no-name charger.
6.FPV must choose the brand batteries, don't use no-brand-name batteries. Single cell voltage has big difference.
7.When fly in the hot weather, try to choose the moments that before sunrise or after sunset that the temperature is not that high. Pay attention to the heat dissipation of the battery and the electronic speed controller. If can hang the batteries and electronic speed controller outside of the plane, try to dissipate heat outside.

The Best FPV Battery:Tattu R-line 95C Battery

After two weeks our 1300mah Tattu R-Line 95C batteries have got 15 charge-discharge cycles and now we can talk about them in a more accurate way than when they were new brand.


Comparing with other two 1300mah batteries of different types we have, including a "graphene" one, the R-line battery is the best. The "graphene" one almost reaches the performance of the R-line but its greater weight (also its measurements) makes the R-line win.

In the last cycles we have made it suffering by discharging it until 3.0v per cell. It came down hot but not as much as other batteries and after a few seconds the battery cells recover the voltage (3.5- 3.6v)

The internal resistance when the batteries were new was 001/001/001/001 Mohm and now, after 15 cycles is 002/002/002/003 Mohm


In my opinion, they are the best 1300mah batteries we have used so far. They have a great discharge from the beginning until the end of the flight regardless of what you force them. I think that Gens ace has done a good job with these batteries, I am looking forward to try the 1500mah packs.

How to Extend the Battery Flight Time of Drone FPV

Most Quadcopters have a flight time ranging between 3minutes to 20minutes. However, other cheaper models have a flight time shorter than this. The most puzzling question that Drone FPV pilots face is how to extend the flight time of the FPV battery in use.
There are many factors that affect the flight time of the FPV drone; such as the weight of the drone, winds, flight recording, and flight style. The addition of weight, presence of wind and recording your flight using a camera are some of the conditions that drain your FPV battery flight time.


Tips To Increase Your FPV Battery Time:

1. Choose a big battery.

Most Drone FPV models are fitted with mid-size batteries which do not offer flight time longer than seven minutes on average. Acquiring a battery with a higher mAh will increase your flight time. Just as with other kinds of lithium-ion cells, the voltage of a LiPo cell depends on its chemistry and varies from about 2.7-3.0 V (discharged) to about 4.20-4.35 V (fully charged), for cells based on lithium-metal-oxides (such as LiCoO2), and around 1.8-2.0 V (discharged) to 3.6-3.8 V (charged) for those based on lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4).
The exact voltage ratings should be specified in product data sheets, with the understanding that the cells should be protected by an electronic circuit that won't allow them to overcharge nor over-discharge under use.
For LiPo battery packs with cells connected in series, a specialised charger may monitor the charge on a per-cell basis so that all cells are brought to the same state of charge (SOC).
If you’re not familar with LiPo batteries, or have just purchased a new charger, you maybe don’t know how to safely set up the charge rate for your battery. Though the battery supplier will show you what the maximum “Charge Rate” of the battery is. But this information is different from the “C-Rating” which is usually displayed as a number on the front of the pack (30C, 75C, etc).

If you are unsure of what your 7.4v lipo battery charge rate is , it would be safe to charge the battery pack at a 1C rate. To determine this number, take the mAh rating of your pack and divide it by 1000.
Here as belowing are some expamples:
Example 1: If your battery is 3300mAh your 1C charge rate is 3.3A. (3300/1000=3.3)
Example 2: If your battery is a 7000mAh pack, your 1C charge rate is 7A. (7000/1000=7)
Example 3: If your battery is a 250mAh pack, your 1C rate would be 0.3. (250/1000=0.25 it’s okay to round up)
And if your battery allow for a higher charge rate (Usually the general range is 1C-5C) simply take the numbers you came to calculating your 1C rate and multiply it by that factor. We can use the above 3 examples.
Example 1:
The first example was a 3300mAh battery pack, which gives us a 3.3A charge rate at 1C. And a 2C charge rate form a 6.6A, a 3C charge rate would be 9.9A and a 5C charge rate would be 16.5A.
Example 2:
7000mAh 1C charge rate = 7A
2C charge rate= 14A
3C charge rate= 21A
5C charge rate= 35A
Now you should be confident when you need to decide the “AMP” rate when charging your 2s lipo battery 5000mah. Always double check that your voltage is same with the one listed on your battery label.
