Buggies are a cross between offroad and onroad cars. They are the second fastest on road but the slowest offroad usually due to their low wheelbase. Buggies are good for those who cant decide what type of car they want, since they can use it for both.

At present, lipo battery becomes the mainstream of model airplane batteries. In everyday usage, we probably need to use three steps (recharge, discharge and maintaining). Today, I will tell everybody the right way of using the RC lipo battery from three aspects.



Recharge

When you have a lipo battery, you are in no hurry to recharge, but read the battery specification carefully first. Recharge current, voltage and temperature can not be greater than the standard of the specification. What could happen if they are higher than the standard.
1.Using batteries higher than recommended current may cause problems of the battery discharge performance, mechanical property and the safety performance, and may cause heating and leakage, can greatly reduce the battery life.
2. Recharge voltage higher than recommended voltage may cause cell overcharged, usually caused by using in wrong charge way. (Like direct current charge)
3.The recharge temperature here is not the temperature caused by recharging but the environment temperature during the process of recharging. When you find the surface temperature anomalies, you should immediately end the charging.

Discharge

1.Discharge current

Discharge current should not exceed the maximum discharge current specified by the battery. (Formula is "the number of milliampere divided by a thousand and then times the number C" equals the maximum discharge current).

2.Discharge temperature

The battery must be discharged at the range of temperature specified by specification. When the surface temperature exceeds 60 degrees, should stop using, until the battery cool down to the room temperature.

3.Over discharge

Over discharge can cause fatal effect on the battery, so it is best not to make monomer battery voltage lower than 3.7 volts.

Battery storage

Battery should be stored in a cool environment. When you store battery for a long time (more than three months), suggest you put battery in the temperature of 10 to 25 degrees and low temperature, non-corrosive gas. The process of long-term storage, charging and discharging once every three months to keep the battery active, and ensure voltage in the range of 3.8 volts.
Finally, if you don't mean to use a battery in the short term, be sure to remember that do not charge it fully before you keep it. This is to prevent the battery bulge in the process of preservation. The best maintaining method is storage. The voltage is monomer 3.8 volts

How to choose RC lipo battery?

Battery is filled with organic electrolyte solution, and installed with safety valve and PTC components, in order to protect the battery from damage in abnormal conditions and when the output is short-circuited.

Tattu 1800mAh 75C 4S RC lipo battery Testing

I was sent one of the new Tattu 1800mah 75C 4S batteries to do a bit of testing. I've been flying it for a week or so and I have spent some time gathering data. Here is what I've found so far.
To give a bit of background, I am a multirotor pilot, and am primarily interested in miniquads. That being said the testing I've done applies universally. These high C rated batteries are useful beyond the bounds of multirotors into the world of 3D flying, and high performance aircraft.


Physical Characteristics

As with the Gens ace 2200mah I reviewed last month, my first impressions of this RC lipo battery are very positive. Gens ace/Tattu seem to use the same build techniques in both their lower discharge and higher discharge batteries. It has the same aluminum support that covers the battery and adds additional protection to the top and bottom of the battery. After a bit more research I have found that this actually provides compression during high discharge and according to research can significantly extend the life of the battery. Again, where the high current lines enter the battery casing they are re-enforced with additional heat shrink. The balance leads also come out the opposite side of the casing rather than the same side as the high current lines. In addition this battery has a plastic cover that extends over the balance lead cables, preventing stress on the cables when plugging and unplugging the balance cable. I will point out that on some chargers this can prevent the balance leads from fitting properly. Unlike the 2200mah, this battery came with XT60 connectors, which means no soldering for me. Battery dimensions actually exactly the same as the 2200mah 2S battery, and are accurate to the product description on the sellers website. The wight is just over 200g and the physical size is 105mm x 35mm x 25.4mm. Because of the aluminum plates the size is very consistent.

Conclusions

My initial impressions of these batteries both in build quality and performance are very positive. Because of the very high C rating, it is hard to get an accurate picture of whether or not this battery can full fill a 75C (135A) current load, but given very few people have a setup that can draw that type of constant load, that's not something we can easily gauge. Since I haven't found a reliable method for testing internal resistance It's hard to get an objective measurement of true C rating. I will post an update as soon as I can test these on a more reliable tester. I can say up to 65A loads this battery performs excellently. I was also very impressed with how well it recovered from first time abuse.
The battery provides both solid performance and the extras in the build such as the reinforced cables and aluminum compression plates add up to a very nice battery. For those interested, the battery is available here:

Jonathan Strobel, a resident of Palm Beach County, Florida, alleges in the suit that his Note7 was in his right pocket on Sept. 9 when it exploded, causing "severe burns" to his leg, leaving him "in shock and extreme pain due to his injuries". Nearly a million Note7 smartphones were sold in the United States. The recall applies only to Samsung Galaxy Note7 phones sold before Sept. 15, 2016. Samsung has received 92 reports of the batteries overheating in the U.S, including 26 reports of burns and 55 reports of property damage, including fires in cars and a garage. Three Australian airlines have banned passengers from using or charging Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Note 7 smartphones during flights due to concerns over the phone's fire-prone batteries.

Why did the lithium battery explosion?


Lithium battery are better than lead-acid batteries, nickel-cadmium batteries, nickel hydride batteries in performance, and it is better than fuel cells in discharge times. But the safety of lithium batteries still needs to be improved. The biggest hazard of lithium batteries are lithium cobalt oxide lithium batteries in case of overcharge lithium anode formed in Dendrite and pierces the diaphragm, forming internal short circuit. External short circuits, internal short circuit will yield hundreds of amperes of current, resulting in a battery explosion is overheated.

How to use lithium batteries?


1.The charge voltage should not exceed specified limited voltage (each battery chip is 4.2 volts), 4.25 volts is the highest limitation of each charge voltage. 3.Over discharge will make battery damage. When the battery discharges, monomer battery voltage should not be less than 3.6 volts (When single cell is 3.8 volts, the plane should almost begin to descend.)
4.The battery should be kept in a cool environment. When storing the battery for a long time (over 3 weeks), suggested to put in the environment that temperature keeps at 10 to 25 degree Celsius, low temperature and non-corrosive gas. Battery needs to charge and discharge once three months to keep battery activity, and ensure every chip voltage in the range of 3.7 to 3.9 volts.
5.A good battery should have a good charger. Don't use no-name charger.
6.FPV must choose the branded batteries, don't use unknow batteries. Single cell voltage has big difference.

The use and maintenance of the FPV battery

Now FPV all use Lipo battery, and there are many pilots that they all used 3s/4s battery in the FPV racing competition.
The so-called 3s is composed of three layers lithium cells in series that shows each cell voltage is 3.7 volts, each lithium chip actual voltage is in the range of 2.75 to 4.2 volts. The capacitance marked on lithium is that the energy was getting when 4.2 volts discharge to 2.7 volts. The FPV lithium voltage must be kept at the range of 2.75 volts to 4.2 volts for use. If the battery voltage is lower than 2.75 volts, it is excessive discharge, lithium battery will expand and the chemical liquid will crystallize. The crystallization may pierce the internal structure that cause battery short circuit, even changes voltage charge into zero. The remote model airplane voltage is higher than 4.2 volts, it is overdischarge, the internal chemical reaction is too excessive and the lithium will expand, if voltage keeps charging, the RC lipo battery will expand and burn.

No matter overdischarge or overcharge, both can cause a lot of damages to remote control model airplane battery.
Because FPV battery almost use for violent flight, so must pay attention to the skills about the use and maintenance of FPV battery.

How to evaluate the quality of RC lipo battery?

It is so dazzling that there are numerous types of RC lipo battery on the market today. However, the quality of lithium polymer battery is a major worry for aeromodeller, and therefore, we today make popular scientific education about how to evaluate the quality of lithium polymer battery.

1.Target rate of C: is the discharge rate can reach the identified rate value of the battery

In accordance with the industry standard, the C rate of a battery is evaluated by discharging with X rate of battery capacity, and the battery discharge is not lower than 3.50V and the discharge curve is smooth around 3.50V. The C rate of the battery is the maximum value of X, which is evaluated by various indicators, including pressure drop, holding capacity of pole piece, temperature, flatulence or not, safety, etc.

2.Target rate of capacity: The capacity can reach the identified capacity value of the battery
