"C" rating is a rating of how quickly energy can be discharged from a battery. The rating is combined with a battery’s capacity to find determine the maximum discharge. The "C" rating of a battery only specifies the amount of current a lipo battery RC can safely provide. So a 1000mah 10C battery can safely provide 10 amps, a 1000mah 20C battery can safely provide 20 amps, etc. However it is the motor and it's propellor that determines the amount of current that will be required. So if a given motor/propellor combination requires 10 amps and you use a battery that can provide 30 amps only 10 amps will flow in the circuit. Increasing the current capacity of the battery will not increase the current in the circuit.
Current in a circuit is determined by the voltage applied and the circuits electrical resistance. The motor/prop combination are the circuits primary resistance. The ESC has some resistance and the battery itself has some resistance. Since you are not changing the motor/prop or the ESC these resistances remain the same. So the only thing that can effect the circuit resistance is the battery. It's resistance is so low as to be negligible. So even if your 25C battery has slightly lower internal resistance a negligible amount of current increase should be seen. “C” Calculation:
To charge a 2100 mAh Li-Po at 1C or C/1, set the charger to charge at 2.1 Amps (mAh divided by 1000 to get amps). It’s that simple. So a 3200 mAh NiCad that can be charged at 2.1C would be charged at 2 and 1/10th times the battery aH rating (3.2 X 2.1 = 6.72 amps). Likewise, a trickle charge of C/10 for the same battery would be 1/10th of the “C” rating (3.2 / 10 = .32 Amps).
Chargings C Ratings
It is also important to consider C-rating when charging batteries. I always stick to the rule of thumb that you should charge your batteries at no more than 1C even if they are rated for a higher Charge c-rating.
